Another comic

As long as we're on the topic of Calvin and Hobbes, I think that this one pretty well sums up where much of my inspiration in school comes from:

Calvin and Hobbes

I came across an amusing Calvin and Hobbes strip today with a school psychology reference. You know, it's probably true - encourage creativity, but too much creativity can lead to people thinking you're wacko. Eh.

Substance?

Okay, I might as well write something of more substance than just a lazy link to another website. The only problem at this moment is that I'm too fatigued to think of something worthwhile to write about. Darn it. Well, I suppose that I can share with you that I'm going to see Bruce Almighty tomorrow night.

I bet that you're thinking, "What? Tim, you're crazy. Crazy, I tell you. That movie doesn't open until Friday! You're crazy! Stop being crazy!"

Well, pshaw I say to you! I'll have you know that my good friend Chad received free passes to a premier screening, and he gave them to me after ultimately receiving free tickets to another, more desirable in his eyes, event happening at the same time. I am more than willing to pick up whatever scraps he tosses in my direction.

A very cool product: a 128mb USB watch!

Ready.gov

This link, my friends, is hilarious (but I can only take credit for some of it).

It's an alternate explanation of the "emergency procedures" images presented on our government's ready.gov website.

Einstein's writings are online

After 2:00pm Central, visit this website:

Supposedly, Cal Tech is going through the process of publishing all of Einstein's writings online, and this is will be their home. Sounds über interesting.

Monkeys always make for funny stories

What happens when you give six monkeys a computer? Well, no Shakespeare yet, but I'll bet that they just didn't use enough monkeys.

"The lead male got a stone and started bashing the hell out of it. Another thing they were interested in was in defecating and urinating all over the keyboard. Eventually, monkeys Elmo, Gum, Heather, Holly, Mistletoe and Rowan produced five pages of text, composed primarily of the letter S."

I need to make up for lost time

I suppose that since I hadn't posted anything between November and today, I should at least make two entries to help make up for my extended silence.

So here I am, it's the summer after my second year of graduate school, and all is almost well with the world. I say "almost" because I'm not technically done yet. But at least most of my busyness has gone on hiatus for a couple months. Now that I have the time to really think about my own needs as a person, my goal this summer is to get organized. Yes, I know that's been my goal for many summers now, but this time I really mean it. Wait, that's something I say every summer too. Well, I guess that you're just going to have to believe me this time despite my history. Seriously, I'm going to have to kick my own butt if I don't make huge improvements in that area this year.

Focus, Tim! Focus!

Anyone have some Ritalin that I can borrow?

Back from the dead

Okay, now that I finally figured out what the heck was going on with my broken "Ramblings" page, I can once again open the doors of my mind to you. And apparently, by "you," I mean people named Tim Dowling, since most of the recent feedback on my site have been from guys who share my name. And that's kind of freaking me out. Imagining what would happen if we all physically got together, I keep picturing that scene from Being John Malkovich when John takes the portal into his own mind. If you have never seen that movie, you should.

Or that scene from Bronson, Missouri on The Simpsons. He-he...I love that one.

Bronson kid: "Hey ma, how 'bout some cookies?"

Bronson mom: "No dice."

Bronson kid: "This - ain't - over."
