It looks like the FDA approved Risperdal for use with the symptoms of irritability, temper tantrums, etc. in autism. The first drug for autism, how about that? I have a feeling that Johnson & Johnson (who manufactures it) will be taking in a pretty penny...not that they really need the money.
So the FDA states that "these behaviors are included under the general heading of irritability, and include aggression, deliberate self-injury, and temper tantrums." What I don't understand here is why the drug is only being specified for autism. There are other disorders that have these symptoms - why are they being left out? I'll see if I can track down the studies that led up to approval to get some insight on the matter.
Good stuff, though, nonetheless.
