I don't really have a commentary on the release of Apple's new product, but I must say that I was amused enough by the placement of an image on a Reuters article to take a screen shot of it. I'm thinking that they were expecting better HD capabilities. I had a similar reaction. Regardless, my guess is that Apple was expecting a better response.
A few minutes ago I was trying to install Netscape on my iBook. (Yeah, I'm not sure why I'd want to do that either, but let's ignore that point for a moment.) I successfully remembered my old login name from back in the day and continued through the process. I then arrived at the ubiquitous "Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" agreement. This brought me to a bit of a pause, however. It appears that Netscape is playing a little game of hard-to-get.

Touché, Netscape. Touché.
This is kind of neat: Apple has released a number of Sesame Street videos for free through iTunes. If you know a young'un, they could make for a fun little gift. You should be able to burn them to a DVD as well so that they're not confined to your computer or iPod. You do need to have iTunes to get to them, though. The program is free and can be acquired here if you don't already have it. Click on this link and you'll be sent to the area on iTunes where the videos are held.
[Edit: Apparently you can't burn these to a DVD due to copy protection. However, once the Apple TV is finally released, you can use that to send any movie from iTunes to your television. It'll pay off over time :)]
For those who keep up with the world of technology, and especially the world of Apple Computer, you probably share my sentiments about the following product that was announced today: Apple lets Macs do Windows. WHAAAA?
I...don't know what to think about this. Was Dvorak right? What the heck is going on here??
Well, it looks like somone finally managed the inevitable: getting Windows XP to install on an Intel iMac. I'm really interested to see what happens with this. Will it sell more Macs...or will Apple freak out and try to roadblock it?
You can read a little bit about it here: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1597. Here's the web site that offered the $14,000 prize for the first person to do it: http://www.winxponmac.com. Congrats to Mr. Narf2006!

This is a public service announcement...
If you are a part of the reletively small subgroup of people who use Mac OS X and Cisco's VPN client, you no doubt have come across an error message that prevents you from starting the program after putting your computer to sleep or losing your internet connection. It would say something like this:
"Error 51: Unable to communicate with the VPN subsystem"
Well, there's an easy fix for this that others more knowledgeable than me devised. However, I took the liberty of putting their ideas into a simple application. Click here to download an image file which include the application, instructions, and an optional Applescript file. Hopefully a few people will be able to make use of it.
Update: It appears from my own testing that this workaround may not be necessary for version 4.9 of the VPN client. If you find this to not be the case with you, please let me know!
Short and sweet: I don't think I like the idea of Google investing $1 billion in AOL, allowing AOL to sell graphical ads within Google searches. It smells stinky.

I figure that it's my duty to let the Internet know that I just tried out beta copy of Google Earth for Mac OS X. And I must say, it is looking really good. I haven't noticed any bugs yet, and it seems to be running at a really nice speed, considering that I'm on a 700MHz G4. If anyone wants to download a copy to evaluate, the links are out there (although working ones are very few and far between). Hint: MacUpdate used to have it posted on their website, but the link on the official page was taken down.
